Ramadan Festival Awareness Campaign 2007 with Sharjah medical district

For the 4th year in a row F.O.C.P. participates in "Ramadan Festival awareness campaign" with Sharjah medical district at Al Shaab Club in Sharjah, started from 13th September 2007 till 08th October 2007.

Friends of Cancer Patients organize a Ramadan Sohoor Charity Bazaar

Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and titular president for FOCP, the organization organized a charity Ramadan Sohoor on Wednesday, September 19 at the Sharjah Women's club. The event included a number of activities that added an intellectual and cultural ambience to the event.
This Ramadan's activity came as an initiative from FOCP to gather together individuals in an intellectual and cultural milieu as a means to benefit the patients whom the organization cares for.
The Sohoor included a lecture from Sheikh Dr. Jamil Al Kudsi under the name of "Gorgeous secrets in the science of Qura'n nutrition", followed by a short film about the organization's achievements. The Sohoor featured a bazaar, gathering a number of exhibitors, products and handmade crafts. Exhibitors included the Mother and Child care organization from Lebanon, Abayyas from the designer "Metha'a Al Abbar", handbags from "Amal" and jewelry from the Turkish designer Nilo Far and from "Shahrazad Amoudi", caftan from the designer "Esha", Al Tonahat perfumes and many others.
Mrs. Sawsan Jaafar, President of Board of Trusties for FOCP, said: "We are glad to have this special charity cultural Sohoor meeting during this Holy month of Ramadan. We are also glad with this meeting for the regional, social, humanitarian significance it carries. We would like to thank Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, for her patronage for this special event for FOCP and her continuous support for the organization and its aims".

Friends of Cancer Patients organize an awareness campaign in Dubai about breast cancer
Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) have organized a lecture and a workshop on the prevention of breast cancer and demonstrating the methods of self examination for early detection. The workshop was held at SensAsia Spa in the Village, Jumeirah, Dubai.
Salina Handa, SensAsia Spa manager said: "We are pleased with our continuous cooperation with FOCP, and we will try through the spa center to be involved in this campaign by spreading awareness in the community and educating the women that visit us on breast cancer".

FOCP handed out a collection of brochures and booklets during the campaign, to be distributed in the center, in addition to the pink ribbon which symbolizes the October Campaign for early breast cancer detection.
"We have designated a part of our October revenue to donate to FOCP in recognition of their extensive and highly appreciated efforts toward increasing awareness, which was recently embodied through the purchasing of a digital mammogram machine to be available free of charge to ladies who wish to undergo the investigation."
Dr. Sawsan Abdul Salam Al Madhi, the secretary general of the FOCP said: "Treatment of breast cancer has developed significantly over the last decade, where technology has helped in the early detection of cancer, allowing us to treat it and thus guaranteeing a very high rate of recovery".
She continued: "We are delighted with the positive response from the spa and its staff, and we consider this campaign from SensAsia Spa the beginning for the launch of the extensive FOCP awareness campaign for October 2007, the month for International World Anti-Breast Cancer Campaigns and the most important month on the Friends of Cancer Patients' calendar. The campaign will include similar initiatives in Sharjah and Dubai, where the role of the FOCP will include assisting patients and their families and spreading awareness across all segments of society".

F.O.C.P. Volunteers meeting
F.O.C.P. volunteers meet at the charity headquarter at the supreme council of family affairs on Saturday 04/08/2007.
The volunteers discussed new ideas of future awareness campaigns, and talked about the upcoming two major events for this year:
1. "Ramadan Charity Sohoour Bazar", at the Sharjah ladies club on Wednesday 19/09/2007.
2."Medical oncology course" at the medical collage on Saturday 24/11/2007.
Also a new head of volunteer was nominated by general election to replace Ms. Al Onood Al Abdoul as she is traveling soon to complete her higher studies, Mr. Yehya Al Ansari and Mrs. Khowla Al Shihi where nominated for the post.

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Hon'ble Minister of Economy for UAE launched a book titled "Business Excellence Awards - Strategies for Winning" , on 26th July 2007 at India Club, Dubai.

3 days medical workshop on Health Promotion Strategies

Under the patronage of F.O.C.P. Sharjah Medical district organized a 3 days medical workshop about Health Promotion strategies, at the supreme council of family affairs in Sharjah starting Wednesday 04/07/2007.
More than 50 doctors participated in the work shop from the ministry of health and from out site, learning about the importance of health promotion as the first step in disease prevention and further managements.


Shk. Lubna Al Qassimi "Mukalat" perfume launched on Thursday 24-05-2007

Under the patronage of H.H. Shk. Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qassimi- minister of economy, a new "Mukalat" perfume was unveiled at Saks 5th avenue in Burjuman Dubai.
In a generous gesture Shk. Lubna donated 20% of the perfume selling to support F.O.C.P.

FOCP Organizes an Awareness Program in Hatta in Collaboration with Sharjah’s Maternity and childhood Care Center
In collaboration with both Sharjah’s Mother and child Center and Hatta’s Cultural Sports Club, FOCP organized a cancer awareness program on the 25th of January, 2007 in Al Thahra Co-Ed High School in Hatta. Usual topics such as general cancer awareness and early detection were discussed. Also included were lectures, workshops, and examination clinics.
Dr. Lamees Benyan and Nurse Salam Harb spoke about the different causing factors of Cancer as well as the different psychological ramifications of the infliction. In addition to the methods of early detection and prevention, they also spoke about the different aspects of the mother and child health. This was all mentioned in a lecture they gave labeled: “Early Detection of Breast Tumors”.
At the end of the activity, which had witnessed the participation of many of the students and mothers, FOCP’s brochures and booklets were given out.

FOCP and “The Family’s Spring” Activity
A group of FOCP’s volunteers participated in The Family’s Spring Activity, Jan 22nd – Feb 4th 2007. The volunteers specifically participated in the “Salamatak” program in the areas of Um Khannor (Al Sabkha) and Al Ghafia. They were assigned to their tasks by the program leader Ms. Al Shifaa Al bakri and Ms. Mouza Al Khayyal and in cooperation with Um Khanoor’s and Al Ghafia’s volunteers.
The tasks included:
- Distributing brochures, food aid, and health awareness to around 250 houses in Um Khanoor (Al Sabkha) from the 14th to the 16th of January 2007.
- Preparing and distributing food items, medical aid, and brochures over the participating families of Al Shabkha area (including 250 women and 150 men) in Um Salama School.
- Distributing brochures and house cleaning products to the houses lacking cleanness in Um Khanoor (al Sabkha) from 14th to 16th of January
- Preparing and distributing health and food aids as well as brochures to around 100 women and 50 men in Al Manar Model School in Al Ghfia.
- Aiding doctors and nurses who helped in detecting diabetes, high blood pressure, and smoking illnesses

Arab Health 2007
FOCP and Fuji Film participated in the Arab Health Conference in the month of January of 2007 in the grand exhibition hall in Dubai. Brochures and booklets were distributed.

Ms. Ashrawi visit
FOCP and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs have received the guest of Her Highness Sheikha Jawahir Bint Mohammad Al Qassimi- president of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs- Ms. Hanan Ashrawi. Ms. Ashrawi was introduced to the charity and the various activities, members of the F.O.C.P. Board of Trustees also attended that day.

Al Qasbaa Activities
On Thursday the 22nd of March 2007, FOCP organized an open entertainment day for the Cancer patients and their families. The event included a cruise trip, children fun corner, a dinner buffet, and enjoying the Al Qasbaa’s Food Festival.

FOCP Hosting The National Committee of Anti-Breast Tumor on Saturday March 31, 2007
FOCP has hosted the National Committee for Fighting Breast Cancer through a doctors and nurse staff workshop for Sharjah and Ajman to train them to achieve the highest standards of services the committee aims to offer. Ms. Sawsan Jaafar, president of FOCP board of trustees, expressed how happy FOCP was for this collaboration and wished it would set the proposed goals and to be able to perform many collaborative future plans.
