September 2006 Activities with The Sharjah Women Guides
An awareness day was held on Wednesday the 13th of September, 2006 in the Women Guides' headquarters in Sharjah, in association with The Mother and Child Center.

The awareness day included lectures about healthy diet by Ms. Latifa Rashid, a nutritionist from Al Qasimi hospital, the risks of smoking by Dr. Hiba Yusif from the Preventative Medical, and finally a lecture on early detection of Breast Cancer by Dr. Lamees Benian from the Mother and Child Center. At the end, Nurse Salam Harb conducted a workshop on breast cancer's self detection.

Brochures and booklets were handed out by the Friends of Cancer patients Society.
October 2006 Activities
October is the most important month on the Friends of Cancer calendar. October Activities are structured annual activities that aim to spread as much awareness as possible. October is the month for International World Anti-Breast Cancer Campaigns.

Expo Activity: Represented by Dr. Sawsan Abdul Salam Al Madhi/Office Manager of the Friends of Cancer patients and Ms. Alanood Al Abdool/Head of the volunteer committee, Friends of Cancer Society participated in the Health Awareness Program organized by the Health Education Department of the Sharjah Medical District as part of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival 2006. The Awareness Program was organized between 1/10/2006 until 20/10/2006 at Sharjah Expo Center.
Higher colleges of Technology - Dubai
On 18/10/2006, FOCP participated in the Dubai Higher Colleges of Technology awareness campaign. FOCP was allotted a special stand on campus where Cancer awareness and self detection brochures and booklets were handed to the students.

Visit by President of Yemeni Cancer Patients Society
Mr. Ali Al Khawlani, president of the Charity Establishment for the support of cancer patients canters in Yemeni, visited FOCP on Tuesday the 3rd of October, 2006.

Mr. Al Khawlani visit was to build up the means of communication and co-operation between the two Cancer Patients Societies of Yemen and UAE. Mr. Ali was to meet with Mrs. Sawsan Jafar, President of Board of Trusties, Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, Office President, and Ms. Horiyyah Ahmad, Secretary of Board of Trusties.

Ministry of Health Participation
The UAE Ministry of Health is participating in the Society's awareness campaigns at the American University of Sharjah and Sharjah University between the months of November 2006 and June of 2007.
Naomi Campaign
In cooperation with Naomi Ladies Stores and for the second year, FOCP has organized a vast awareness campaign during the Holy month of Ramadan 2006.

In all of its branches across the UAE, Naomi took part in spreading the awareness by reminding women to perform self breast examination. Naomi also gave out self examination brochures.

SENSASIA Spa Campaign
Similar to that of Naomi's, and at the request of SENSASIA Spa's management, FOCP organized an awareness campaign in the Spa in October 2006.


TV Awareness Campaign with Al-Ain TV
For an entire month, FOCP is organizing a social awareness campaign in cooperation with Al-An Tv. It is aimed to cover all FOCP related activities in addition to education and awareness. The Campaign started October 24th, 2006 and lasted for an entire month. And based on the show's success, the charity received many telephone calls from KSA, Morocco, and other Arab countries inquiring about Cancer and requesting FOCP brochures so they can know more about the society's activities and events.
SAKS Campaign
SAKS Fifth Avenue Stores in Dubai (Burjuman) are organizing a Cancer Awareness campaign starting from Thursday the 16th of November, 2006 till Sunday the 19th of November (including four days of shopping where 5% of profit will go for the benefit of FOCP to support the efforts of the charity and help cancer patients). GARGASH Enterprises are also participating in the campaign as sponcers. The event starts Thursday the 16th of November and will be announced at a gala dinner under the patronage of HH Sheikha Lubnah Al Qasimi, minister of Economy.

Launching new Mammogram Machine
Under the patronage of HH Sheikha Lubnah Al Qasimi, minister of economy, and in cooperation with GE and Roche pharmaceuticals, the mammogram device will be launched in the maternity and childhood center in Sharjah on the 16th of November, 2006.

Friends of Cancer Joins The Breast Tumor Committee in The Sharjah Medical Department
In November 2006, FOCP has successfully joined the Breast Tumor Committee which is a part of the Ministry of health National Breast Cancer committee.

Musharirif Health Center awarness -October 2006
In Mushairif health Center, FOCP handed out a number of its brochures that instruct the readers on self examination and early detection of breast tumors. These brochures will be given out to all of the center's visitors

Friends of Cancer Volunteers Meeting
Under the supervision of Ms. Alonood Al Abdool, Head of Volunteers, and Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, Friends of Cancer Office Manager, the volunteers held a meeting on the evening of Thursday the 8th of July 2006 in the Society’s headquarters in the Family Supreme Council. The meeting handled the different ways of executing the different awareness programs by giving more active roles to the volunteers. In addition, new ideas aimed at expanding the society’s activities were proposed.

The volunteers expressed their extreme joy and satisfaction in doing volunteer work and were thus more attached to the noble goals of the society and declaring their full commitment.

Finally, the next meeting was set to be held in September 2006.

Friends of Cancer in Qatar Convention
As part of the continuing scientific and technological innovation in the ongoing campaign against Cancer, and in order to discuss the latest medical innovations aimed at finding radical solutions to combat breast cancer, the Qatari Anti-Cancer Society hosted the "21st Century Trends of Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer" convention in the Qatari capital of Doha from the 30th of April to the 1st of May 2006. Represented by Mrs. Sawsan Jafar, president of the board of trusties, and Ms. Ameera Bin karam, a board member, the convention witnessed an outstanding participation by the Friends of Cancer Society as they were involved, along side many other significant figures in this field, in the debate on how to increase the general awareness regarding breast cancer. The Friends of Cancer Society, with the support of H.H. Sheikha Jawahir Bint Mohammad Al-Qassimi, President of The Family Supreme Council, plays a proactive role in raising the awareness level of the risks resulting from cancer as well as extending the helping hand in the aid of the afflicted patients. And so, and in her word to the audience, Ms. Sawsan Jafar stated: "This convention is aimed at raising the general awareness regarding breast cancer considering the fact that it is the second cause of mortality among women worldwide. As such, it is crucially important to continuously discuss and demonstrate the latest in related statistical figures and diagnostic researches. And to stress on the importance of public awareness and regular checkups, experts always insist that this disease could be successfully treated and controlled by means of early intervention" Furthermore, the convention organized a host of side meetings among members to discuss and coordinate future plans for cooperation.

Honoring Friends of Cancer Volunteers
The Society organized an honoring ceremony on the Sunday the 7th of May 2006. It was attended by H.H Sheikha Jawahir Bint Mohammad Al-Qasimi the president of The Family Supreme Council and honorary president of the F.O.C.P. Society. H.H was generous enough to personally hand over the volunteers their certificates of appreciation as a token of her approval of the voluntary work which is much valued and much encouraged by ladies and women as it is a precious service for the community and its needy groups.

Also, and as part of the occasion, Ms. Alonood Al Abdool, head of volunteers, gave a word where she spoke about her experience as a volunteer and thanked H.H for her continuous encouragement and support of volunteer work.

Indeed voluntary work is crucially important for the welfare of the society in general, therefore, this honoring ceremony was an opportunity to assert the Society’s interest in promoting for voluntary work as a charitable duty, thus encouraging female volunteers to join.

Friends of Cancer Participate with The Maternity and Childhood Center on the World Health Day (3/4/2006)
In cooperation with the Center for Maternity and Childhood, Friends of Cancer Patients participated in the International Day for Health, held on the 3rd of April 2006, by displaying informative booklets and brochures about the activities of the Society as well as leaflets about prevention and self breast examination.

Launching ‘TAWEIA-2’(Awareness Campaign-2) in Sharjah University (5/4/2006)
In association with Sharjah University, and in coordination with Dr. Ameena Al Marzooqi, Dean of Student Affairs in Sharjah University, Friends of Cancer Patients launched its ‘TAWEIA-2’(Awareness Campaign-2) for the second year in a raw throughout the months of April, May, and June of 2006 starting from Wednesday the 4th of April 2006. And to make sure the campaign will cover a broad sector of the UAE society, we have cooperated with the Maternity and Childhood center they provide an examining doctor and a nurse throughout the activity. The first clinic was held on the 5th of April 2006, the second on the 24th of April 2006, and the third on the 5th of June 2006.

Participating in the Word Health Day with Sharjah University (3/4/2006)
In association with Sharjah University, Friends of Cancer Patients participated in the World health day by displaying informative booklets about the Friends of Cancer Society, brochures about prevention and promoting self breast examination.

Participating in Ajman Educational Zone's Activities (28/3/2006)
Friends of Cancer Patients joined "Friends of Natural Breast Feeding Society" in the "Productive Mother" exhibition organized by the Ajman Educational Zone in Aesha Bint Abdullah School on Tuesday the 28th of March from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM by handing out brochures and giving a brief description about the society and its goals.

Saudi Delegation Visit (24/1/2006)
In its headquarters in The Family of Supreme Council, and Headed by Mrs. Sawsan Jaafar, President of Board of Trusties, The Friends of Cancer Patients Society received the Saudi Delegation of the Cancer Society headed by Dr. Mohammad Adel. The delegates were taken on a tour of the Society’s headquarters where they introduced to its different activities and actions.
