EARLY DETECTION
Many cancers can be successfully treated if detected early enough. One way to do this is to seek medical advice if you notice any persistent changes in your health. If you ignore the symptoms, the cancer will spread and become more dangerous and less easy to treat.

Checklist
You should consult your doctor if you experience any of the following :

  • a lump anywhere is your body, e.g. breast
  • a change in a skin mole
  • a sore that does not heal
  • a persistent cough or hoarseness
  • persistent indigestion or difficulty in swallowing
  • vomiting or coughing up of blood
  • change in normal bowel habits, e.g. persistent diarrhea or constipation
  • any bleeding in the urine or bowel movement and any abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • unexplained weight loss
  • unexplained loss of appetite

Having one of these symptoms does not mean you have cancer, but you should see your doctor immediately so the situation can be fully assessed.
